One of the many privileges to the enjoying great wines
throughout the year is being able to try some unique and boutique wine
producers who occasionally send us a lovely bottle.
Recently, we had the chance to sample a
Dewitt Cabernet Savingnon 2011 and found a real solid winner in the myriad of
wine choices out there in the world of wine.
We thought this wine was interesting because the wine making process
started in Northern Nevada but ended up in the great wine growing region of
Alexander Valley.
The 2010 production of 150 cases was sold-out. The 2011 production was 185 cases and was released, for sale, June 2014. The 300 cases of the 2012 will be released in June 2015. The 2010 production of 150 cases has sold out.
The 2011 production of 185 cases was released, for sale, June 2014. the wines are available at various retailers and restaurants in both Northern and Southern Nevada. Since that time the production has been moved to Healdsburg. The wines have won the following awards:
- 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon: 90 points Wine Enthusiast Magazine, Silver Medal 2013 San Francisco Chronicle, Silver Medal 2013 Finger Lakes Wine Competition.
- 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon: 88 points Wine Enthusiast Magazine, Gold Medal San Francisco Artisan Awards 2014, Silver Medal 2014 Sonoma County Harvest Fair
We had the opportunity to try this wonderful Alexander
Valley Cabernet Savignon. On the nose there
are aromatic lovely notes of dark fruit, chocolate covered cherries, with a
vanilla crème brulee notes. With medium weight in the glass and on the
palate there is a tremendous richness up front on the palate with lots of the
crushed dark fruits.
This Cabernet is well balanced with integrated tannins due
to the grapes robust structure. The
finish lingers on the palate with those hints of dark cherries and vanilla.
