VINO LAS VEGAS attends the Great Las Vegas SteakOut at Del Friscos and enjoys the best from Silver Oak Cellars

VINO LAS VEGAS had the opportunity to attend the Great American Steak Out at
Del Friscos Double Eagle Steak house. The proceeds for this event support culinary scholarship programs at the College of Southern Nevada and has risen over $ 130,000 over the last four years.

Silver Oak Cellars produces legendary wines under two labels . Under the Twomey label
they produce Pinot Noir and Merlot. The Label of Silver Oak covers all of their
Cabernet Sauvignon production. As many people are aware these two labels produce to what many consider some of the finest wines in the world.

Del Friscos has quite a reputation itself as one of the areas finest
steak houses in the area. With this renown combination of some great wines and a wonderful restaurant we knew it would be a meal that we would remember for quite some time. Executive Chef Fernando Guerrero really out did himself with the food and wine pairings. What made this dinner especially challenging to pair was all of the wines were red. Chef Fernando pulled it off with flying colors with Sous Chef Dean Messiana.

We started the evening off with passed Hors D'ouevre that
included Vegetable Stuffed Mushroom Caps, Escargot , Sliced
Kurobuta Pork with Rosemary Au-Jus and Ahi Tuna Salad. This
was paired with Twomey Pinot Noir 2006 Russian River.

The Second Course was an amazing Italian Pasta Salad with
Arugula paired with a very nice Twomey Merlot 2004 Napa.

We were just getting warmed up when the Third Course of
Swordfish Livernaise with lemon , butter, capers ,olives and tomatoes arrived at our table. Our first Silver Oak Cabernet of the evening , a 2004 Alexander Valley really showed off this course.

We were now ready for the Entree and Chef Fernando really hit a home run with Filet Mignon
topped with a Bone Marrow Butter accompanied by roasted rosemary potatoes. We were all presently surprised by pairing this with four Silver Oak Cabernets.

We started with a Silver Oak Cabernet 2003 Napa and it just
got better from there with a Silver Oak Cabernet 1995 Alexander
Valley , a 1994 Alexander Valley and finishing with an outstanding
Silver Oak 1990 from Alexander Valley. We have been to many
wine dinners all over the country and we have never had a course
paired with four world class wines all at one time. In a word, the Entree and these wines was Amazing.

We finished off the dinner with a
Desert that included Chocolate covered Cheesecake Bon Bons
paired with the remaining Silver Oak Cabernets from the Entre.

During the dinner guests had the option of participating in a silent Auction with great gifts from wine baskets , dinners , cameras and even a printer. All of the proceeds were to benefit this great cause at the College of Southern Nevada

Steve Raszkin , Director of Sales Western U.S for Silver Oak Cellars was ever present as he spent time at each table talking about the wines. As we thought from the outset, this was a meal that will be remembered for a long time. Kim , Steve , Chef Fernando and the entire Del Friscos staff did an outstanding job presenting this dinner and should be commended.

VINO LAS VEGAS visits the 2nd Annual O VINO to support Opportunity Village

We at VINO LAS VEGAS believe that
we should all give something back to
our communities. Regular readers and

visitors to VINO LAS VEGAS have seen us support several organizations. One of those organizations is Opportunity Village.
Opportunity Village is a not-for-profit organization that serves
people with intellectual disabilities by providing them with vocational training, employment and social recreation.

Southern Wine and Spirits , Lees Discount Liquors , World Market Center and Trader Vics all came together along with Opportunity Village to raise funds for this very worthwhile cause.

VINO LAS VEGAS was proud to support the 2nd Annual O-Vino as well. With hundreds of wines , great food , live entertainment and even a psychic , how could you not have a fun time.

The venue of the World Market
Center is a work of art. We traveled
up to the World View 16th floor where guests had a spectacular view of Las Vegas

We walked past tables with wines like Banfi , Moet Hennessy , Klaus Dillman , Pernod Ricard just to name a few. All were pouring their best for the many guests. Local band Venus Rising took the stage with the Las Vegas skyline as their background and entertained us with great live music. One of the longest lines we saw all evening was the line for Mystic Mona and her psychic readings.

The food provided by Trader Vics was excellent . There was even a sushi table watched over by students from Le Cordon Bleu Culinary school. Many of the guests bid on some great items at the silent auction.

The crowd grew as the evening went on and everyone we spoke to was pleased with the event. The 2nd Annual O VINO was a success and we look forward to attending the 3rd Annual event next year. We raise our glass and say thank you to all of you who came out and enjoyed this fabulous event for Opportunity Village.

Join Elaine and Scott of VINO LAS VEGAS LLC as we take you inside the event and speak to a few of the people responsible for putting it all together.

Chateau Ste Michelle Wine Dinner at Smith and Wollensky will be the place to be August 27th

Smith and Wollensky is what we call a Las Vegas landmark restaurant. located right in the middle of the world famous "strip", Smith and Wollenskly serves up great food and is even open for lunch.

This wonderful restaurant is also known for its wine dinners. This week is no exception . A Chateau Ste Michelle wine diner is worth the visit. With these wines and food paired by Executive Chef John Piccolino this is a dinner that we shall remember
for quite sometime.

Chateau Ste. Michelle is the oldest winery in Washington state. It was founded as the American Wine Company, a 1954 merger of the National Wine Company (NAWICO), founded in 1934, and the Pomerelle Wine Company. (For years, there was a large neon sign advertising NAWICO in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood.) The French-style chateau is located on 87 acres (35 ha) of land with mature trees that once belonged to lumber baron Frederick Stimson, who used it as a hunting retreat and rural working farm called the Hollywood Farm.

VINO LAS VEGAS has attended many of these dinners in the past and we
are always very pleased. You walk in off the strip and see their beautiful
lounge / bar area. This bar reminds me of an old Boston neighborhood bar from the 1930s. The bar staff is exceptional and many have been behind the
bar from the day the restaurant opened.

The wine dinners are held upstairs where you have great food and wine with a nice view of the Las Vegas Strip just below. If you are a wine lover Smith and Wolensky devotes a whole week twice a year to you. During "Wine Week" " stop in each day and sample a new collection of wines. This is a great way to sample wines that you may have never seen or could not afford.

There is always a good time at this landmark restaurant located right in the middle of the action on the Las Vegas strip.

Elaine from VINO LAS VEGAS sits down for a conversation with Table 10's Executive Chef Jean Paul Labadie

Over the last 10 years Las Vegas has taken its place among the world's best culinary destinations.

We have had the opportunity and privilege of meeting some of these world renowned chefs and sampled their one of a kind unique creations. These men and women are truly artists in their kitchen.

Emeril Lagasse just opened his third restaurant in Las Vegas. His new restaurant, Table 10, is located in the newly opened Palazzo Hotel and Casino. The first thing that really stands out is the large bar just as you enter the restaurant and then your eyes are drawn to the open kitchen where you can dine and watch the the staff operate like a well oiled machine.

The food is one of a kind and in our
opinion unique to Las Vegas. You have a choice of many seafood, meat, or poultry dishes that are all delicious. Another highlight of this special restaurant is its rotisserie located next to the kitchen where diners can see it in use nightly.

When Emeril was looking for an executive Chef to open Table 10 he did not have to look far. Infact, he did not even look outside of Las Vegas. He tapped Chef Jean Paul Labadie of Emerils Fish House in the MGM for the job. Jean Paul was up to the challenge and opened Table 10 several months ago.

Recently , Elaine from VINO LAS VEGAS sat down with Jean Paul . He really gave Elaine a good prospective on the dedication and work it takes to become a renowned Chef and what is was like opening a new restaurant in Las Vegas located in one of the finest resorts on the strip.

Elaine from VINO LAS VEGAS talks with Owner Raymond Nisi of Double Helix Wine Bar and Boutique located in tha Palazzo Hotel and Casino.

VINO LAS VEGAS is always "on the look out " for special and interesting places in the Food and Wine industry no matter where in the world our travels take us.

We did not have to look far when we found Double Helix shortly after the Palazzo Hotel and Casino opened. There is no other place like it on the famous Las Vegas strip of world class resorts and hotels.

Double Helix is not just a wine shop but a wine bar as well. Located on the second level of the Palazzo it is surrounded by world class shopping and great restaurants.

You can stop in for a drink at the wonderful wine bar situated in the
middle of the second floor or take a bottle back to your room and if you are in the mood for a white wine, you don't even have to chill it down. Owner Raymond Nisi has made sure that all of his white wines are chilled in a custom designed cooler so they are ready to
go and enjoy properly.

After a few hours shopping you may be in the mood for some wine and an appetizer. The Double Helix wine bar offers small plates prepared by Emerils Table 10 restaurant headed by Chef Jean Paul Labadie and his team. We found wine by the glass that most restaurants only serve by the bottle.

This very special place is also the home of many special events and wine
tastings. No matter when you stop in at Double Helix there is always something going on. When we are on the Las Vegas strip it is not hard to get us to stop off at Double Helix for some food, wine and great conversation.

Elaine from VINO LAS VEGAS sat down with owner Raymond Nisi as
he explained how Double Helix evolved and took her on a tour of the shop.

Join Elaine and Raymond as they take you on a visit to Double Helix located in the Palazzo Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
