O'Brien Wines at Bleu Gourmet for Valentines Day

Joseph and Bibiana from Vin Sauvage
were at Bleu Gourmet just before

Valentines Day with some great wines

so we stopped in to enjoy wines from O'Brien vineyards in Napa Valley

owners Bart @ Barb

Owners Bart and Barb started this great Vineyard in 2000. Winemaker David Yorgensen joined them in 2004 and the rest is as many people say history.
The vineyards are located in Napa Valley in the Oak Knoll area.

Bibiana poured us the 2005 Chardonnay first. Our first impression is that
it was not a typical Napa Chardonnay. It was much more crisp and fruit
forward. In the glass it was medium bodied and straw colored. On the nose
hints of of pear, apple, melon and almonds came through and blended nicely
with a palate of fruit and spice. This wonderfull Chardonnay had a long finish with a touch of oak , cream and spice .

The next one on the list was the 2005 Merlot. In the glass

it was medium bodied with a ruby color. The nose reminded us of coffee, caramel , earth and cedar. The palate exploded with black cherry and casis then finished with balanced acidity and light tannins.

The final O'Brein wine of the night was the 2005 "Seduction"
They have done a great job marketing this wine and has even
been on the Today Show on NBC. It can come nicley packaged
for that special occasion.

The "Seduction" is a proprietary red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot from the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley appellation.

In the glass this wine was medium to full bodied with a deep dark reddish color. On the nose we were hit with cassis , licorice and black cherry. The palate came through a a variety of flavors starting with currant, cedar, oak then dark fruit. The finish was long with medium tannis. This was a very balanced wine and worth the price.

Bart and Barb had a dream many years ago and have done a great job of making it come through. Bart has a blog as well and can be found at http://romanceofwine.blogspot.com/

We look forward to tasteing more wines from O'Brien and plan to visit on our next trip to Napa
